Born in Pathankot on 8 August 1945. Completed medical studies at Glancy Medical College, Amritsar, from 1962 to 1967. Briefly served in the Punjab Civil Medical Service as Assistant Civil Surgeon, Kapurthala, before being commissioned into the Indian Navy on 11 September 1968. Served in various naval hospitals and aboard ships including INS Nilgiri, INS Vikrant, and INS Viraat. Was part of the commissioning crew of INS Viraat and was nominated for the first Naval Higher Command Course at Karanja. Retired from the Indian Navy on 31 August 2004 on superannuation. Subsequently served as Secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab Branch, from 2005 to 2011. Now settled in Delhi, leading a retired life.
